“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” —Marcel Proust
When I was a child, I could fly (in my dreams). I’d close my eyes and look within. Then I’d spread my arms and run. I don’t know how it worked, but if my focus was just right, something would lift me up and I would take off like a bird in the air. It happened a lot! I can’t remember when it stopped, but it started again when I fell asleep while watching the Vice Presidential debate.
First question… “Governor Walz, if you are the final voice in the situation room, would you support or oppose a preemptive strike by Israel on Iran? You have two minutes.”
Walz replied, “Well, thank you. And thank you for those joining at home tonight. Let’s keep in mind where this started…”
He went on to say Donald Trump’s name 4 times in his response, and another 9 times in his response to Vance’s allegations.
Trump’s name was mentioned 133 times during the debate, compared to Harris who was only mentioned 76 times. And jeezzzz, Biden was mentioned just 8 times, as if he were a phantom from Christmas past. Add up the Harris mentions and the Biden mentions together and it’s only 84! Trump, with 133 mentions, takes center stage and gets significantly more attention from both sides.
I’ve watched the political commercials of the Harris campaign, and the only visible strategy I can see is…Trump is going to do this or that, so you better not pick him! Let’s be real…if your only strategy for running the United States of America is to stop someone else from being elected, then you’re feckless and manipulative, and pathetic, and the whole world can see right through you like a glass of water. You’re nothing but a big bully, trying to make others look bad so that you can appear good. You’ll do anything, even try to kill your opponent, to get what you want. Sorry, but who is the villain in this story?
I heard a beautiful song a few weeks ago that made me weep. It’s not a new song, but new to me. It is about me. It is about you. It is about our nation. And it is about our brothers and sisters in North Carolina and Tennessee who got beaten up by that horrific storm. It is about letting go, recognizing those who have held us back, who have kept us from flying. It is about empowering ourselves again by resting in something higher than ourselves. It is about our minds and hearts coming into unity, one accord. It is the alpha and omega, a dance between a long end and a new beginning.
The heart of America and the head of America are in conflict, and the heart will win. The heart always wins eventually and eternally. New revelations will come and people will figure out what is really happening and how they have been used and discarded for an evil agenda. It is my hope that we collectively rise and take back our country. I hope we choose to face our demons, to own up to our responsibilities, to pick up our pitchforks and shovels and dig rather than kill each other. America has not lost its heart…it has just forgotten how to use it.
May we cleanse this country of the confusion, pride, narcissism, privilege, slavery, imperialism, the fake everything that has contaminated our food, our air, our water, …and may we learn how to fly again with our own wings. Can we get off the back of global slavery and rise up? Can we unbury the mountain of $35 Trillion in debt? Can we endure the pain and come out better and stronger and alive? So many people look dead. Please, come alive again!
My heart tells me that we’re going up to new places. I’m cleaning my ears and washing out my eyes, and rehabbing my body. I’ve been fighting for a very long time, and I’m tired. My mind, my body, and my heart ache. But like a bird in the air, I will escape the snare. I will shake this off, spread my wings, and fly. I have already been set free. Nothing will hold me back now. God has given me eyes, to see. God has given me ears, to hear. God has given me air, to breathe. So I’m shutting this computer down and going for a walk.
My heart goes out to all those who have suffered from the hurricane, and for those loved ones who were lost in the storm…you will fly again too.
